About Us
People within the industry understand the seismic changes taking place within it, and before the Credit Crunch arrived, the Directors chose to dispose of the two largest businesses within the Group. The retail pharmacy businesses were sold to Lloyds Pharmacy in February 2008 and the pharmaceutical wholesale business was sold to Phoenix Healthcare in March 2008 in anticipation that the drug manufacturers would increasingly be moving away from the traditional wholesale model, which has subsequently proven to be the case.
In September 2008 the Group began a new pharmaceutical wholesale operation, focussing on two niche activities, the wholesale of (only) PI and Generic drugs and the operation of a dedicated medicines repacking operation. As befits a company with more than thirty years experience the entire warehousing and repacking process takes place in fully licensed premises and in a fully accredited manner with the highest standards of quality control. The new business operates under the name of “Strathclyde Pharmaceuticals”, or “SPL” as it is known to many. SPL was previously the holding company for the wholesale businesses but is now operating as a trading company in its own right rather than just acting as a holding company.
Donald Munro and John Cochrane remain with the business and a number of former wholesale business employees have also joined the new operation which is operating from our state of the art warehouse facility in East Kilbride. We are looking to build on our heritage as the leading independent pharmaceutical wholesalers in Scotland and aim to continue our policy of competitive pricing and great service.
